As I'm getting older my memories that are not attached to a feeling, a smell, an event, or a sound are slowly fading to make room for more memories. By using Clipography it makes these memories come alive again, instead of only in my dreams. One may ask what is Clipography. It is best explained by Barry Mauer. He explains Clipography in his article 9 Nietzche at the Apollo: An Experiment in Clipography as "Clipography is a "Mys-tory", a research method that links self-knowledge and disciplinary Knowledge (Mauer)." He also introduces the idea of "Popcycle" by Gregory Ulmer. Popcycle is a neologism(a newly coined word or expression) that contains four areas family, school, entertainment, and the disciplines (what one becomes an expert in). Researching these areas I found many things such as videos, music, and pictures that help me describe my childhood and hometown. These combined together to make my clipography project.
As you flip through the screens you will notice the electricity theme. This is because when I think of memories they come and go in a flash. These glimpses are triggered by a sight, a smell, a song, a movie, a train, a boat, or even sometimes a color on a house. These memories have a term called Flash bulb memories. Flash is generated by electricity. The way I am sharing my flash bulb memories is through a play on words a term by Gregory Ulmer "Electracy". Electracy is writing a story on a digital platform. To make your story you combine the knowledge of multimedia, hypermedia, social software and virtual words in which they communicate through a form of reading, writing, movies, songs, and research. This quote by Gregory Ulmer best describes this by this quote “electracy is to digital media what literacy is to print.”
Plato once said "Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul". I hope these secret places in my soul, help you flash through time with me in my stories.
